General Membership
MEMBERSHIP GUIDELINES:
To be considered a full member of Galactic Fringers requires two things: 1) A Star Wars-y (Swarzy) outfit, and 2) Participation.
OUTFIT:
Your outfit should look and feel authentic to the Spirit of the group, and must be UNIQUELY YOU. Nothing worn by Galactic Fringers should appear cheap, or of a Halloween costume-like quality. First and foremost, our outfits must be practical clothing. It is also important that all articles of clothing do not appear to be of Earthly origin (i.e. no visible graphics, brand names or logos).
-Shirts/Tops:
You have a lot of freedom here. Just about any top is acceptable as long as there no visible graphics, brand names, or logos. T-shirts are permitted unless they are pocketed. Buttons
or fasteners should be covered/hidden (exceptions may be made on a case by case basis).
-Bottoms:
You have a lot of freedom here as well. Like with tops, just about anything is acceptable
as long as there are no visible graphics, brand names, or logos. Buttons or fasteners should be
covered/hidden (exceptions may be made on a case by case basis). Shorts should be avoided in most circumstances (exceptions may be made on a case by case basis).
-Footwear:
Here is where your freedom is slightly lessened. Boots must be calf height or taller (ankle
shoes may be permitted on a case by case basis). Footwear must be slip=on, zippered or strapped. Laces are not permitted unless hidden/covered. Tennis/athletic shoes, sandals and flip flops are not permitted.
-Outerwear:
Basically, the sky's the limit here. Robes, cloaks, capes, shawls, ponchos, coats, jackets
(pretty much anything but zipper or pullover hoodies or windbreakers). As with above no
graphics, brand names, or logos can be visible.
-Belts:
There are very few restrictions here as well.
Just about anything can be used as a belt as long as there are no graphics, brand names, or logos can be visible. Buckles are one of the few restrictions. While the standard bar/pin buckle is permitted, it should be used as a last resort, in favor of other, more spacey types (see reference photo for buckles to try to avoid) (Use of these types of buckle may be permitted on a case by case basis).
-Accessories:
This is where the outfitting process gets fun. Aside from hiding buttons, and avoiding
Graphics, brand names, and logos, the accessories are really what makes a piece of garb stand out as Swarzy. For example, jacket is just a jacket until you add a comm badge.
.
A belt is just a belt until you add pouches and tools.
NO
YES
And of course, there are the best accessories ever…
Weapons… What says Star Wars, and the wilds of the
Outer Rim and the Fringes of the Galaxy more than
a trusty blaster on your hip, or a lightsaber
dangling from your belt. The regulations for
weapons are simple yet strict. NO FUNCTIONAL
WEAPONS WILL EVER BE PERMITTED. All Blasters
must be non-firing (exceptions may be made for
Nerf guns only). Blasters must also NOT look like
any earthly firearm; while earthly firearms may be
Used as the base or template, it must be modified
with accents and greeblies to make it Swarzy. (See example comparison between a real world Mauser C96, and a Star Wars DL-44)
Any bladed weapon used for your outfits must have
a dulled edge and blunted tip.
**NOTE**
Carrying weapons while participating in any activity that could be deemed as representative of Galactic Fringers in any way whatsoever, is a privilege and may be revoked at any time. Failure to adhere to the club’s weapons regulations, the carrying of functional (live firearms, sharpened blades, etc.), or the intentional misuse of prop weapons WILL result in disciplinary action, up to and including Expulsion from and disassociation with Galactic Fringers and any of its related sub groups, as well reporting to law enforcement agencies if necessary (a.k.a. IMPERIAL ENTANGLEMENT).
-THEME SPECIFIC SUB GROUPS
For events hosted by Galactic Fringers, or events where Fringers have been invited to add
“atmosphere", the complexity and authenticity of your garb is purely subjective as long as they meet the basic Costume Standards set forth above. There are times, however, when events occur that require a more specific costume requirement. As such, Galactic Fringers allows for “theme specific” sub groups within its ranks, each with their own, more exacting and
refined Costume Standards. (Please find the Costume Standards for these sub-groups on their own subpage within this site).
-CHARACTER CREATION AND IDENTIFICATION CARD:
Upon approval of your garb and kit by the Galactic Fringers Board of Governors, you must complete one final step before becoming a full member of the club. That final step is to create an in-universe persona that corresponds with your appearance. Here you have almost unlimited options. The more creative you are here, the more believable an atmosphere we can create and maintain for whatever event we attend or take part in. At a minimum you will need:
-NAME: An original character name other than your own. Be as creative as you want, but if it becomes unpronounceable, have a suitable nick-name ready to go.
-HOMEWORLD: Choose any of the known Star Wars planets, or make up your own.
It's a big galaxy.
-SPECIES: List Human, unless you will be portraying an alien species via masks, make- up, or prosthetics.
**NOTE: PLAYING AN ALIEN SPECIES IS HIGHLY ENCOURAGED**
-OCCUPATION: Again, be as creative as you want, but make sure the occupation matches your appearance. (We don’t need a dental hygienist with a heavy
blaster rifle…)
-RANK: Here you are limited to your highest rank within the club.
1 = Member
2 = Charter Member
3 = Command Crew.
Once you have successfully become a member of Galactic Fringers, you will be issued an identification.
-Every Identification will be a sequence of letters and numbers beginning with the letter “F” followed by your rank within the organization, and ending with the last four numbers of their own phone number for personalization purposes (example: F1-0123). Your Rank/Access Level determines your number of votes you may submit in group decisions, as well your priority status on the occasion when events we may participate in have a maximum attendance capacity.
-Rank/Access Level numbers are as follow:
1=A member of less than two years
2=A member of more than two years
3=Command Crew (Officers/Board of Governors, Ship's Captains, Club Owners,
Regional Marshals, Starport Mayors, etc...)
-Once you become a Fringer, you have the option of joining any of our sub-groups
(Currently we have three active sub-groups. Please see their sub-pages). Each of these groups have their own initial designation, which will be added to your Identification code:
G=Galaxeum
CS=Corvus Skull Shipping and Salvage
KL=Knights of the Light
(Example Identification Number of a member of all current sub groups with two or more years: F2-GCSKL-0123; all together, this Member has an Access Level of 2, which means two counted votes, and a middle to high priority status in event planning.)
**Your Identification Number and Access Level will evolve as you do within the group.
Once all of the garb, kit, and costume building is complete, it is recommended, though not required, that each member of the group obtain an ID Card/Scan Doc (pictured below). These cards are a fun way to show group solidarity, as well as being a fun prop to have when working with groups like the 501st. All too often they like to flex their Imperial muscles and
demand identification from local citizenry; playing along and providing an ID/Scan Doc helps maintain the believability of the atmosphere that groups like ours try to create. (A web address for purchase from a non-affiliated vendor is located below the photo)

REMEMBER!!!
When building your outfits, remember the most important part is your imagination and love for Star Wars and other Sci-Fi franchises. Galactic Fringers has several costuming experts available to consult with you and brainstorm ways to make practical clothes Swarzy. Before a person can become a full member of Galactic Fringers, or any of its sub groups, your outfit must be approved by our Board of Governors. Since our goal is to represent an entire galaxy’s worth of clothes and fashion, it will be virtually impossible for an outfit to be rejected completely, however the board may decide that small modifications or additions are required.
PARTICIPATION-
The second requirement for membership in Galactic Fringers is actively taking part in what we’re doing. Whether it be costumed events for charity, parties, fan films and video productions, conventions, or any other occasion that may arise where we ge to wear our outfits and show off our creativity, we want you there. Galactic Fringers is meant to be a
community, and communities are nothing without the people in them.
-SPECIAL EVENTS:
The guidelines above meet the Costume Standard requirements necessary to participate in most events hosted by Galactic Fringers, as well as many events to which we get invited to offer "atmosphere". There are, however, events that Galactic Fringers may host or be invited to that have specific costume and performance expectations. On those occasions, invitations to participate will only be extended to those members which have approved garb that meets the requirements of the event. For such events, Galactic Fringers will announce the date, time, and costume/performance requirements as soon as they are made known to us. All members who wish to participate in the event must:
-Comply with all scheduled mandatory costume inspections, to ensure we are
presenting ourselves in a manner that meets or exceeds the criteria of the event
we've been invited to. (Please see the sub-group subpages for specific Costume
Standards.)
-Attending all preparatory training sessions set forth by the performance sub-
groups (when applicable).
